Youth is an endearing coming-of-age drama that captures the chaos, innocence, and restless energy of adolescence with remarkable charm.

The Tamil language film follows Pravin, a high schooler whose singular ambition is to fall in love before high school ends.

Academics barely interest him, his overindulgent mother Saroja (Devadarshini) shields him from consequences, and his strict father Unnikrishnan’s (Suraj Venjaramoodu) attempts to ground him often fall on deaf ears.

But as life has a way of teaching lessons in its own time, Pravin’s journey gradually unfolds into a heartfelt exploration of love, responsibility, and self-discovery.

What makes Youth work so well is its infectious youthful spirit. The film brims with energy, making Pravin’s silly adventures both entertaining and relatable, and drawing us into his world so completely that we cannot help but root for him.

We want him to stumble, learn, and ultimately discover what love and happiness truly mean.

The 25-year-old director Ken Karunas, who also plays adolescent Pravin, delivers an impressive performance that perfectly captures the awkwardness and enthusiasm of adolescence.

His screen presence is effortless, and his dance sequences have electrifying energy. More importantly, his direction ensures the film never loses its lightness, even as it touches deeper emotional truths.

The film’s vibrant music (G V Prakashkumar) and lively cinematography (Viki) further amplify its appeal, creating a visual and emotional rhythm that keeps the narrative buoyant throughout. T

The supporting cast, especially Devadarshini and Suraj Venjaramoodu, are perfectly cast as Pravin’s middle-class parents, lending authenticity and warmth to the family dynamic.

At its heart, Youth is a delightful reminder of the awkward, hopeful, and transformative years of growing up. Packed with humour, warmth, and plenty of youthful exuberance, it is a delightful watch.

Tamil film Youth is now sreaming on Netflix.
