A 22-year-old Pakistani international student working an Uber shift to support his family back home was among three people killed in a late-night crash in Sydney's south early Saturday morning.

Shoaib Hussain had spoken to his friend Qasim Malik just before midnight on Friday. He said he was finishing one last Uber fare and heading home. He never got there.

Hussain, who had been living in Sydney since September 2022, was driving his Toyota sedan on Rocky Point Road in Sans Souci when a white Audi crossed a concrete barrier and landed on his vehicle just after midnight. His passenger, 28-year-old Seamus Duignan, also died.

So did the driver of the Audi, 42-year-old Tamati Gilbert.

The crash occurred roughly 10 minutes after police responded to a welfare concern about Gilbert at a property on Second Avenue in Gymea Bay.

Officers found him in the Audi in a driveway but he drove off before they could speak to him. CCTV footage later showed Gilbert allegedly driving at considerable speed in the moments before the collision.

“Emergency services were called to the southbound lanes on Rocky Point Road, Sans Souci, after reports of a two vehicle crash,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers attached to St George and Sutherland Shire Police Area Commands attended and found that the Audi had rolled over a concrete barrier before landing on a blue Toyota sedan. The 42-year-old driver of the Audi died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Toyota also died at the scene.”

Uber Passenger Was Celebrtaing His Birthday

The passenger in Shoaib's car, Seamus Duignan, 28, was a former student of De La Salle College Caringbah. Duignan had been out celebrating his birthday at a heavy metal concert. He had booked the Uber to get home.

Fear Factory's founding member Dino Cazares paid tribute after learning of Duignan’s death. “We were deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident involving one of the fans who attended our Sydney show. Our thoughts and condolences go out to their family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss,” Cazares posted on social media.

“We’re grateful to everyone who comes out to support Fear Factory around the world, and we simply want to remind everyone to travel safely and look out for one another on the road home. Much respect and sympathy from all of us in Fear Factory,” Cazares added. Duignan's mother Kim has called for a full inquest into the accident

Shoaib had arrived in Australia in 2022 and was studying social work on a student visa. He had started driving for Uber at the beginning of 2026, working weekends to support himself and send money home to his family.

Shoaib was the second of four brothers and had not returned to Pakistan or seen his family in four years, his friends said.

Friends Qasim Nadeem and Nouman Baig, who launched a GoFundMe for the family, described him as a young man who worked hard, never complained, and always made sure his family had what they needed.

"No matter how difficult life became," they wrote, "Shoaib continued supporting his father and brothers back home."

The funeral is being arranged with support from the AusPak Youth Association Australia and the Pakistan General Consulate in Sydney.

The GoFundMe, Hussain's frinds said, ws purely for the family left behind in Pakistan. “This fundraiser is purely dedicated to supporting Shoaib’s family financially after this tragic loss,” Nadeem and Baig added. The fundraiser raised over $94,000 in a few hours.
