Melbourne’s NGV is set for a blockbuster cultural bash on August 30, as Indian Community Day returns with music, dance, art, and food to celebrate the city’s vibrant Indian diaspora. 


The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will burst into life as it hosts its annual Indian Community Day. From 10 am to 5 pm at NGV International in Southbank, visitors of all ages are invited to experience a joyful celebration of Indian and South-Asian culture that highlights the rich diversity and creativity of Victoria’s Indian community. Entry is free, and no bookings are required.

The day will be hosted by the multitalented Indian Australian actor and creative, Sharon Johal. Johal is widely recognised for her work on beloved TV shows such as The Twelve, Neighbours, The Block, and Shantaram. Beyond her acting career, she is a strong advocate for community, arts, interiors, and fashion. 


​​Dance, Music, and Rhythm At NGV


The Great Hall at NGV International will feature headline performances that promise to captivate audiences throughout the day. Sapphire Dance Company will bring a dynamic fusion of Bollywood and Hip Hop, recreating the drama and excitement of India's iconic cinema moments. 


Rhythm and percussion lovers can experience powerful dhol drumming performances live twice during the day in Federation Court, at 12:50 pm and 1:50 pm. 

Accompanying the live acts, DJ Karan will keep energy levels high with sets blending Bollywood classics and contemporary hits, creating an inclusive vibe that appeals to all generations.

Indian and South-Asian Art At NGV


As the performances celebrate movement and sound, NGV’s galleries offer a rich visual experience. Visitors can explore Indian and South-Asian art highlights featuring traditional and contemporary works—from intricate textiles and sculptures to vivid paintings and photography. Guided talks and tours will deepen visitors’ appreciation of these cultural treasures, showcasing the history and creativity of the Indian subcontinent.
