Cricket Australia announced that public tickets for the highly anticipated Melbourne T20 international between Australia and India have sold out more than three weeks ahead of the match.
The public ticket demand is clearly not limited to Melbourne. Public allocations for matches in Sydney and Canberra's Manuka Oval have already sold out, while the Adelaide ODI and Gabba T20I venues are close to capacity, with fewer than 5,000 tickets remaining each.
Overall, ticket sales across the BKT Tyres Men’s ODI and T20I series against India have surpassed 175,000, with just over 30,000 tickets left for the remaining eight matches in the series.
This sell-out follows a similar trend for the 2025 Ashes series, with public ticket allocations for 12 days of the historic Australia versus England Test matches completely exhausted.
The sell-out for the T20I and the Ashes series signals unprecedented enthusiasm for cricket this summer, one of the strongest in recent years.
Huge Crowds Expected For Australia vs India Cricket Series
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg expressed excitement about the ticket sales, noting the phenomenal interest in the Australia-India rivalry. “The huge crowd anticipated for the Melbourne T20I is another strong indicator of the incredible interest in this series,” Greenberg said.
He added, “To have over 175,000 tickets sold with 13 days until the first ODI in Perth is a phenomenal result. It speaks volumes about the strength of the rivalry and the enthusiasm of fans across the country.”
The series itself consists of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), running from October 19 to November 8 across cities including Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Gold Coast, and Brisbane.
Following the opening ODI in Perth on October 19, fans are set to experience top-tier white-ball cricket at MCG on October 31.
Dedicated Indian Fan Zones Sold Out
This surge in ticket sales reflects the deep popularity of cricket in Australia, boosted particularly by its growing South Asian population and the immense following for India’s players, including T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, ODI captain Shubham Gill and Rohit Sharma.
In August, Cricket Australia had announced that the dedicated Indian fan zones at all eight venues had officially sold out 50 days ahead of the series.
“We are thrilled by the overwhelming response to the Indian fan zones selling out across all eight venues... We’re looking forward to a vibrant atmosphere in the stands and a world-class contest on the field between two great cricketing nations.” - Joel Morrison, Executive General Manager Events & Operations Cricket Australia
For fans unable to attend in person, the entire series will be available live on Kayo Sports and Foxtel, with ball-by-ball radio coverage on ABC, Triple M, and SEN.
The strong ticket sales and packed stadiums this summer follow a record-breaking cricket season for Australia. Earlier in the year, the Ashes series saw unprecedented demand with more than 220,000 tickets sold on the first pre-sale day, doubling the previous record from 2017-18 and underscoring cricket's place as Australia's national sport.
The 2025-26 Australian cricket summer, featuring fierce contests in both the Ashes and the Australia-India white-ball series, promises unforgettable moments for fans both in stadiums and at home. For fans unable to attend in person, the entire series will be available live on Kayo Sports and Foxtel, with ball-by-ball radio coverage on ABC, Triple M, and SEN.
